INTRODUCTION
This BIP is part of the “Orchestra tipica di Tango Lab” of the Cagliari Conservatory, that has been held for the
last 3 years. The Cagliari Conservatory is the only one in Italy, and one of the few in Europe, to include in its
educational offer the study of the Bandoneon as a main instrument, under the guidance of Prof. Fabio Furia.
The Orchestra tipica di Tango is made up of violin, viola, cello, double bass, piano, bandoneon and accordion.
The BIP is aimed at involving violin, viola and cello students from all over Europe.
OBJECTIVES
The project aims to deepen the study of one of the most varied and interesting repertoires that the 21st
century has produced: Tango. The need to plan an ad hoc project comes from the fact that the constituent
elements, the performance practice, the stylistic features of this genre remain a mystery to all musicians who
try to approach it. The study of these elements is therefore very useful to develop new technical skills and
abilities that can then be re-proposed also in the classical field.
METHODS AND ACTIVITIES
The techniques, the elements that constitute the magic of some styles, such as Carlos di Sarli, Anibal Troilo,
Osvaldo Pugliese, Enrique Mario Francini, Alfredo Gobbi, etc., will be explored in depth with 2/4 online
video conference sessions lasting 2 hours each, and with the help of video tutorials that will reveal some of
their secrets. The comparison, both online and in person, with two masters specialized in this genre will
allow you to acquire those skills that are difficult to find outside the circle of specialists, and rarely in an
academic setting.
The online learning phase will then be expanded and deepened with the in-person session that includes 7
days of activity: 6 days of lessons, 7 hours each, and the final concert on the last day.
OUTCOMES
Participation in this BIP aims to broaden students' repertoire and introduce them to a genre that is still little
explored in the academic field, under the expert guidance of the organizing teachers. It also aims to offer a
skill that can open up new job opportunities, given the near absence of specialized musicians.
